St. Mark's Square is a historical symbol of Venice. Its construction began in the 9th century.
It is located in the centre
of Venice. Visitors arrive there to see the two most important museums in Venice:
the Doge's Palace and St. Mark's Basilica. In addition, there are other
buildings such as the Campanile, the Correr museum and the Clock Tower.
The square is the
lowest place in Venice, so when there is flooding it is the first place to
flood. When this happens, the authorities place walkways for the transit of
citizens and visitors.
St. Mark's Square is
full of pigeons and many tourists take photos with them.
